Killing Lust Series: Music

As a Nigerian, I am very proud of my Nigerian artists and their creative music, but I have to be careful to what I listen to. There are spirits connected to music, if you believe it or not. We open ourselves up to all kinds of spirits by what we listen to. Our music industry is polluted with the spirit of lust, the spirit of greed and the spirit of self-love. If you listen to songs all day about grinding, sex and all sorts of promiscuity, don’t be surprised if that’s all you think about.

Proverbs 4:23 “Guard your heart with all diligence” We have to guard our hearts from anything that doesn’t line with the word of God. If the message in the song contradicts the word of God, it means we shouldn’t be listening or supporting that kind of music. This kind of music will affect our spirit man because we have the holy spirit on the inside of us.

What are you listening to? Does it glorify God?

Not Another Love Song..

Personally, I think we have enough songs about love, premarital sex and drugs. These types of songs are popular because they sell. Instead we need songs about girls suffering from eating disorders because they don’t look like the girls in the  music videos. We need songs about teenagers who are on drugs, and how they are ending their life before starting it. We need songs about guys in gangs, who think for some reason they are invisible from the law. We need to sing about little pregnant teen girls with no plan for a better future for neither themselves nor their baby.

We need to stop contradicting ourselves. Why condemn the stripper dancing in a club for money and you don’t condemn naked ladies in most of these videos? It amazes me how a lot of kids really look up to these stars. They don’t sing about the importance of getting a good college education and bettering themselves. They sing and rap about all the parts in a female’s body, premarital sex, drugs and shooting someone. These songs paint this fictional world that doesn’t exist. It’s impossible to have that many women without a sexually transmitted disease. Women are not objects that men can toy with and move on. These videos only promote a one-sided type of beauty to women. These videos capitalize on the fact that most women only want guys who have money (Not true).
People have heard enough songs about gangbangers, womanizers, drug addicts and premarital sex experts. We need songs to direct our youth in the right direction.

Killing Lust Series: Be Careful little Eyes what you see

When I was younger, my Sunday school teacher taught me this song. We have to be careful what we see. The bible says the person who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed a sin in their heart. Society encourages us to look. Guys and Girls look. There’s nothing wrong with looking but that second look will get you in trouble.

When you see someone attractive usually the first look is innocent but looking the second time is never innocent. Society has this cliché saying “look but don’t touch.” Well, if you are looking eventually you will touch. Lust has no restraints. We have to make sure our action is not encouraging lust in our lives.

We can’t control who we see initially but we have to control ourselves from taking that second look. We can’t do anything by ourselves. We need to ask daily to help us not to look at people lustfully. For with God nothing shall be impossible (Luke 1:37).

Killing Lust Series: love

purity ringWe focus on God’s love for us that we neglect to show God we love him. The same way we show the people we love our love, we need to show God we love him too. Real relationships are not one-sided.  The best way to show God we love him is by doing what he tells to do. Having this mindset of doing things out of our love for God will not only help us with our walk with God but it will help us in life.

Our love for God should motivate us to kill lust in your lives. Lust is a relationship killer. A relationship with God is vital to killing lust in our lives.  God shows his love to us every day. What are we doing to show God we love him? Love is an action word. We have to show God we love him by obeying his word. Sin hurts God. We can’t say we love God and hurt him with sin. Feeding lust will destroy our relationship with God. We can’t serve two masters.

We should be committed to killing lust in our lives not out of obligation but of out of love for God.

Killing Lust Series: RUN!

I remember in college this guy who liked me dropped me off in my dorm room. When he was in my dorm room, I guess he couldn’t handle me and him in my room. Yes, he literally ran out!
You know your strengths and weakness. If you know seeing a woman or a man in a certain type of clothing will empower lust in your life then don’t put yourself in that situation. Avoid situations that will empower lust in your life. For example, if seeing R-rated movies or any movie that has sex in it or anything that is a struggle for you, it means you don’t need to see that movie. Feeding lust enhances lust in your life. The best way to kill lust is through the power of God and starving its appetite.

“Flee from every appearance of evil” 1 Thess. 5:22

This girl in my church thought there was nothing wrong with porn. She said you are not really doing the real thing. That is far from the truth. Porn empowers lust. If you are struggling with porn please, don’t allow anyone to fool you. Porn is very satanic and devilish. The enemy will use porn in your life to destroy you. If lust has gotten to this stage for you, other people need to be involved. If you have someone you trust who can help you exercise self-control and keep you in prayers.

Yes, we live in a hypersexual world but we can’t be ignorant of the plans of the enemy.
More to come!
