Myths Nigerians need to stop believing about America:

1. Money grows on trees– I know a lot of Nigerians don’t think like this but for those who believe this myth, please stop believing it. America has a lot of opportunities, but Nigerians have to come here and work hard for their money. Stop calling a student in the America to send money to you. If they are not working; they don’t have the money. Please try to believe that even if they are working that as a student, they wouldn’t have that much time to commit to work and making money.

2. People who travel aboard are better than you– There are insecure people who come back from America to Nigeria to act high and mighty. Truth is they are nothing and I don’t care how much money they have. Treat them the same. They will try to pretend that they have forgotten their native language, it’s not true. Now, if they have been in America for 15years or more, it is possible to forget the language if they didn’t speak with other natives but they should still be able to remember.

3. There is no poor person or places here– Everywhere you go you will see poor people and places. America is not exempted.

4. Nigerian girls and Nigerian guys are the same from back at home: I mean, they have the same mentality but with a little twist. Nigerian guys here are away from their mothers and family, so they have to learn to cook. You will be surprised how Nigerian guys can cook. The whole thing about woman cooking is slowing going out the window (women still need to know to cook). Nigerian girls here are very independent and not as dependent as they would have been on men in Nigeria.

5. We don’t eat our native food: There are some Nigerians who come back and act like they can’t eat Nigerian food anymore. Don’t mind them. We still eat Nigerian food here. It is a little expensive because we are limited as to where we can get the food stuff but we still eat it. Some places in the states might be different.

Nigerian guys are to soccer as Nigerian Girls are to______________?

I asked this question on my facebook status and I got all sort of answers. The answers people gave were
Money, Brazilian hair, Fashion, and Instagram. To answer this question, I would say “Money.”

I know I am a Nigerian girl and putting Nigerian girls under the bus will not be good for us, but I have to be honest with you guys.

Yes, I said it.. MONEY!!

Please, excuse my honesty..
Some Nigerian girls are too materialistic.
I didn’t say all Nigerian girls, I said “SOME.”

Some of these girls are so Materialistic to the point it could make someone sick.
Nigerian girls are materialistic due to the way things are in Nigeria (I want to believe)…
I think if things were a little better economically, it wouldn’t be this bad.
Please know that I am not condemning any Nigerian girl.

Advice to Guys dating or who want a Nigerian Girl..

First of all: if you marry a girl who clearly only loves you for your money, it is your fault not hers. If you feel you have to buy a woman’s love with your money, something is seriously wrong with you. Love is priceless. If you can buy love, it is not love.

If you want to marry a Nigerian girl who truly loves you for you then you have to take money out of the equation. Initially, you may want to study her and the friends she hangs out with to know the kind of person she is. Take her to a cheaper restaurant and see her reaction. If she ask you for money for something, say “no” and see her reaction. Let her discover that you have money after you are sure  she is into you for you. You need to be discreet about it too.

If a lady marries you for money, she will leave you when the money is gone. BEWARE!!!

Again not all Nigerian girls are Materialistic but be careful that you don’t make yourself a victim.

Nigerian Men 101: For Non-Nigerian women dating Nigerian Men..

If you’re a non-Nigerian woman dating a Nigerian man, here are some things you need to know about your Nigerian Man.

1. Your Nigerian Man values Education-Most Nigerian men are in foreign countries for education, sports or business. Since you are foreign, you most likely met him in your home country or a country foreign country to him.

2. Your Nigerian Man loves Soccer (fyi: we call it football)- I am yet to find a Nigerian man who doesn’t love soccer. Find out his favorite professional soccer team and support the team. The popular soccer teams are Arsenal, Chelsea, Barcelona and the list goes on.

3. Your Nigerian Man loves his family: if you get to meet his family, he is very serious about you. Nigerian men don’t joke with their families. To meet his family, you definitely want to leave a good impression. If his family approves of you, he will most likely marry you.

4. Your Nigerian Man’s language will tell you about his culture. If he says he is Igbo, Yoruba, Efik etc..etc. You want to read up on his culture. If he was raised in Nigeria, there are some cultural practices that he might still want to uphold. This cultural thing is more important when you meet his family, you don’t want to do anything to insult his parents or family members. Reading or asking him about his culture might be helpful to you down the road.

5. Your Nigerian Man loves his Nigerian food- you will find some Nigerian men here and there who do not like their Nigerian foods but I am yet to find one. If you want him to put a ring on it quicker, learn to cook his ethnic food and see what he will do. Most Nigerian men in foreign countries are learning or already know how to cook their ethnic food but you will impress him more if you learn to cook it or show some an interest.

The SOLUTION to our Nigerian Problems..

Guess what? I have the solution to all our Nigerian problems.
You want to know?
We are the solution to our problems.
You heard me right.
You are the solution to your country’s problems.
Do you think the United States of America or China would be where they are today if they waited for foreigners to help them build their country?
NO!!!
Nigerians stop blaming politicians and start blaming yourselves.
We are the solution to our problems but we haven’t figured out the solution because we are not thinking outside the box.

I want to show you something to help you understand the importance of thinking outside the box.
Below, I have posted two video of young people who thought outside the box and brought solutions to their African Community.

My people, our real problem is that we are not thinking. These young boys don’t have PHD degrees but they are making a difference. WHAT IS OUR EXCUSE? It’s time to start THINKING, NIGERIANS.

THINK NIGERIANS THINK!!!

I rarely cry when iconic people die but for you sir, I felt a tear. I am humbled by how you fought for your people the same way Martin Luther King Jr. fought for his people. Your people are living better lives because you sacrificed your life for them. I salute you sir because a lot of people would have chicken out but you fought till the end. I join South Africans to celebrate your life and we will never forget your sacrifice. I watched Sarafina when I was younger, and I saw a tiny glimpse of how your people were maltreated in your own country. I saw how talented your people are and how this apartheid made them stronger. I am not South African but I think if I wasn’t born Nigerian, I would have been South African. I love your people, culture, talents, voices and anything else I am yet to discover about your country. Our world needs more selfless leaders like you!! We will always and forever remember you. You lived a wonderful life, Sir. I will never forget you. South Africans will never forget you. The world will never forget you. Your legacy lives on. Goodbye, Sir!!!

Why are Nigerians Everywhere?

The truth is each Nigerian has their own reason why they are where they are.
Here are my top reasons why Nigerians are Everywhere:

1. Nigerians value Education–
Did you know the United States doesn’t recognize college degrees from Nigerian schools? I can’t speak for other countries. They are some college degrees that are accepted but it rarely gets accepted. For a Nigerian who wants to further their education in another country; going to school in Nigeria might be a waste of time because that school might not recognize their degree. Most people who school in Nigeria might have to start college all over again to get a degree because their Nigerian degree is not accepted.
-Some Nigerians are in your Country for Education.

2. Government Instability in Nigeria–
Our Country is rich in oil and other natural resources, but we have selfish politicians who only think about themselves and their pockets. The money we earn from oil is only distributed among our selfish politicians, who only think about how to exploit their citizens than help them.
-Some Nigerians are in your Country to escape Nigeria’s corrupt politicians.

3. Broken School System in Nigeria–
Can you imagine spending 6-7 years in school for a degree that should only take you 5 years? Students in our Country due to strikes might have to stay in school longer. Some strikes can last for months without students knowing when the strike will be over. Most strikes arise for a lot of reasons; it could be due to the fact that our government have not paid teachers in months. Thus, teachers use a strike as a way to demand their salaries paid.
-Some Nigerians are in your Country because your Country has a more stable school System.

4. NEPA
NEPA is a company that is responsible for supplying lights (electricity) throughout Nigeria. A lot of Nigerians make fun of this company because they don’t give us any light and we have to pay them every month. NEPA is one of the things I hate most about my country. Most Nigerians use generators as a source of light because we never know when NEPA will give or take the light. Can you imagine going a whole day with no lights? NEPA can take lights for a whole week straight meaning you can stay a whole week straight with no light. It seems like someone in their NEPA station is playing with the light switch. They can give your lights for 1minutes, 2min, or 4min (their choice). To be honest, I lived in Nigeria for 12years and I can’t remember sleeping throughout the night with lights. We have some states like Abuja, Lagos.. etc who enjoy constant light but not in my state Akwa Ibom.
-Some Nigerians are in your Country because you have constant light.

5. Graduates have no jobs..
A lot of college graduates feel they went to school in vain because when they graduate they only add to the pool of unemployed graduates still searching for jobs to no avail. It is not easy going to school for 5years or more and graduating with no job to show for it. A lot frustrated youth take on a life of crime to support themselves or they look for a way to leave the country to a place that offers more opportunities.
-Some Nigerians are in your Country because they couldn’t find work in Nigeria.

6. Nigeria has a long way to go. Some Nigerians don’t see themselves progressing in their own country and that’s why they look for a way to leave.

This is why I get angry at Nigerians who are giving Nigerians a bad name by messing things up for Nigerians who genuinely want to better themselves for the sake of their future and the future of our country.
